Interview with Newzbin2
You have questions, we have answers...
The loss of the original Newzbin left a lot of newsgroup junkies wondering exactly where they were supposed to find NZB files. Sure, there are plenty of other NZB indexing sites and search engines out there, but few were satisfied with the remaining stock. They wanted their Newzbin, and by God, they got it. In a strange turn of events, news spread that a resurrection was in the works. Only 15 days later, the site returned - and under new management.
Who is the new management? The old team is gone and replaced with a group named Team R Dogs and their spokesman MrWhite. In many ways, the resurrection of Newzbin follows to a large extent from The Pirate Bay's playbook; a group of mysterious individuals bent on keeping notorious (depending on your perspective) websites online despite judgments against them. If this trend continues, this could indicate a troubling movement against the best efforts of the entertainment industry.
Slyck.com interviewed MrWhite of Team R Dogs - a group that helms the resurrected Newzbin.com - otherwise know as Newzbin2.
Slyck: Who is Team R Dogs, and what is your association with the company that owns the Newzbin.com domain WCIS Limited?
MrWhite: Team R Dogs are a small team of digital highwaymen who, thank you, prefer to remain behind their face-masks. This has been covered elsewhere but to reiterate: we have no association with WCIS Ltd who own the domain. Like several other NZB sites, and a couple of non Usenet related sites, we sought to buy the domain but in the end we were offered a lease on the name. Nor do we have any association with the Newzbin1 team: as we understand it we are off their Xmas card list.
Slyck: A recent news post to Newzbin mentioned that a domain name switch may be in the future. Does this mean the site’s branding “Newzbin” is in jeopardy or just the domain name?
MrWhite: We'd like to hang on to Newzbin.com if possible but realistically WCIS may raise the rent or legal action may get it yanked, although we think legally that would be difficult to do. We have backup domains in place. These days, with Google SEO and word-of-mouth, we reckon the 'Newzbin' domain name, while super useful, really isn't a critical requirement: 1998 has left the building.
