Rejoice, it's SABnzbd+ 0.5.3
The latest and greatest...
There's a new version of SABnzbd+ out - version 0.5.3. SABnzbd+ has been a reliable source of new updates and development, alongside Unzbin and the Mac client NZB Vortex. At one point, the holy trinity of news readers was Grabit, alt.bin, and SAB, however alt.binz hasn't released a free public version in quite some time. This has allowed alt.binz to fall into obsolescence, as the free public version cannot handle WinRAR 3.0 archives.
But SABnzbd+ can, as well as Unzbin. It can also handle split files (.001, .002, .003) too, which are becoming more important in the newsgroup ecosystem. Compressing archives used to be important back in the day, but with fast Internet speeds and already compressed file formats, the need to RAR an archive is becoming increasingly dubious.
So what is the latest and greatest from the SAB? It seems like they're not putting too much stock into Newzbin's future, and have expanded NZB Matrix's compatibility with the client. There's a slew of other features released as well, which you can read more about here.
